Cannabidiol is being put into everything these days, from beverages to bath bombs and dog treats. Many tout it as the answer to anxiety, sleep issues and pain relief. However, the THC contents in CBD can be limiting.
Whether its due to a job that requires drug testing or personal preference, many have to avoid CBD altogether—or do they?
Orange is the new green
The market is now seeing CBD supplements derived from other plants such as orange peel or hops.
One company that wants to make CBD accessible for all is Peels, a wellness company founded by 11-year NFL veteran and CEO Chris Hetherington.
The company produces molecularly-identical CBD without a trace of THC or toxic impurities commonly found in cannabis and hemp-derived CBD products. With both awards and certifications from Clean Label Project, Peels claims their CBD oil is the purest and safest CBD product on the market.
How do you make CBD from oranges?
Peels' proprietary process of deriving CBD from orange peels is called Cyclic Terpene Assembly. This process combines terpenes from orange peels with olivetol, a naturally occurring organic compound, under heat and pressure in the presence of a catalyst. After minimal further processing, the result is crystalline CBD with high purity and consistency.
Peels' molecularly identical CBD acts in the body in the same way and has the same holistic benefits as cannabis- and hemp-derived CBD, but without the impurities and variability associated with cannabis and hemp-derived CBD. CBD interacts with the human endocannabinoid system to deliver powerful all-natural results.
"Because our CBD is made from orange peels, we have a tremendous opportunity to reach target audiences and potentially enter channels our competitors cannot, thus expanding the existing CBD market and improving the lives of more people. Our priority will always be putting our consumers first by continuously innovating and developing data-driven and science-based products to meet their wellness needs,” said Hetherington.
"There are so many benefits to this amazing herbal supplement and we're excited to finally offer 100% certified THC-free and Pesticide-free products for those who've been reluctant to try CBD in the past. With Peels, we're taking all of the impurities and inconsistencies out of the equation. We believe our CBD products deserve a spot right next to your vitamins as part of your daily wellness ritual.”
In January, Peels announced that they secured a $4 million investment from KarpReilly, LLC, a private investment firm with a portfolio of emerging brands like KeVita, Iconic Protein, Salt & Straw, LIFEAID, and Wilde, among others.
Starting off digital
Peels will start off as a digitally native brand, focusing on a direct-to-consumer approach and subscription strategy. Hetherington said the direct feedback loops will guide data-driven decisions moving forward.
