Nouryon’s new bio-based polymer for ‘weightless’ hair styling
The Amaze SP ingredient was on show at the recent in-cosmetics Global trade event, and comes as a result of the company’s global supply agreement with Itaconix to market bio-based polymers to customers in the personal care market.
Jens Müller, Global Technical Marketing Manager Personal Care at Nouryon, explains that customers are turning increasingly towards lighter textures that allow easy hairstyling applications.
“Amaze SP is plant based and provides a unique weightless hold while enabling a very natural look and feel on the hair. It offers humidity resistant style retention, volume and anti-frizz performance comparable to synthetic polymers,” Müller says.
AB Ghosh, Managing Director Surface Chemistry at Nouryon, commented: “Innovation is the backbone of our product development and key to our success, and we use partnerships like the one with Itaconix to accelerate innovation.
“We will continue to develop more novel bio-based solutions for customers, helping them to meet consumer demands for more natural products.”
In-cosmetics Global 2019 spotlight

We were also impressed by Givaudan’s Agefinity, an anti-ageing active ingredient activated by biotechnology, and Stephenson’s new non-soap noodle, which is ultra mild and taps into trends around balanced pH and soap-free formulation.
Another ingredient that impressed us were Mibelle’s PhytoCellTec Goji, an active ingredient based on goji plant stem cells which improves cell-to-cell communication via exosomes,
