Exacerbated by the unusually intense heatwave conditions across Europe this summer, Greece has been hit by a series of fires that have devastated parts of the country, and resulted in the deaths of 91 people.
L’Oréal’s Greece division has taken steps to support the Greek Red Cross in its efforts following the worst of the devastation.
The beauty player confirmed its support for the relief efforts in a statement to Cosmetics Design:
“Deeply moved by the devastation in Greece, we have decided to take action and support efforts to help victims impacted by the wildfires through a donation of 250,000 euros from the L'Oréal Foundation completed by a donation of 100,000 euros from L'Oréal Greece to the Greek Red Cross, which is helping provide first aid and other relief, especially to the injured people.”
What is the L’Oréal Foundation?
The L'Oréal Foundation has been working for 20 years to promote women in science and help individuals in difficult situations, according to the beauty giant.
It aims to “leverage beauty as a means to foster social inclusion”.
The Foundation also acts to assist those impacted by humanitarian crises and natural disasters, as in this case with its support for the Greek Red Cross.
Over the past few years, the L'Oréal Foundation says it has been able to provide support to victims of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2014 hurricane in the Philippines, the 2017 hurricane in the Caribbean islands, and the 2017 famine in Yemen, Nigeria and Somalia.
