At the second annual Beauty Industry Awards event hosted by Cosmetics Design, personal care, cosmetics, and fragrance industry insiders gathered to celebrate the winners across nine categories. Here Danuta Dudek, founder of Cotarde, the 2018 Best Indie Brand, speaks about her company’s original approach to travel skin care, how decades of global beauty industry experience precipitated her turn to entrepreneurship, the value of the independent beauty movement, and more.
Beauty Industry Awards were given in nine categories this year, at an evening event in Amsterdam held concurrently with the in-cosmetics global trade show there.
Four of those BIAs were given to indie beauty brands. Prose won for Best Indie Hair Care; Luxe Botanics’ Kigelia Clarifying Serum won for Best Indie Skin Care; Inika Organic Vegan Long Lash Mascara won for Best Indie Color Cosmetics. And the 2018 Best Indie Brand award went to Cotarde, a well-considered travel skin care brand that also happens to be a candid expression of freedom.
Accepting the award, founder Danuta Dudek encouraged cosmetics and personal care industry insiders to pay attention to the indie beauty movement:
“I think it is really important to mention independent beauty brand founders and owners because they are doing an amazing job. We should treat independent beauty brands as the modern hubs of R&D; they come up with all these beautiful ideas that create the market trends of the industry.
“I believe independent beauty brands are the future of this industry. What’s happening now is very strong…people believing in something, having an idea and going for it, developing it…
“I’m proud to represent the independent beauty industry today.”
