The company, which owns skin care brand Nivea, will remain close to its roots, with the new facilities due to be build in its home district of Hamburg-Eimsbuttel.
The work to build the 100,000 sq metre facility is set to conclude in 2021, with construction beginning this year. The company says the aim of the development is to set the company up for continued growth. The new facility will have 3000 state-of-the-art working spaces, according to the company.
“Beiersdorf is establishing a basis for strong growth in the future,” it confirms in a statement.
“In recent years, the company has generated strong gains and created a large number of new jobs around the world.”
Development of production and research
The company has been based in the same area, spread across three neighbouring sites, for the past three decades. The new project will consolidate its facilities.
As part of the construction project, it says, an additional office building, a research facility, and a two-level underground parking garage will be built.
By adding the research building (completion date: early 2020), Beiersdorf will expand its research and development capacities in Hamburg by 11,000 square meters to reach a total size of 45,000 square meters.
“In addition to building efficiency, employee health and well-being are a key focus of the project, from the planning to the day-to-day use of the new building and the new work environment,” the company says.
‘Confidence in business strengths’
Stefan F. Heidenreich, CEO of Beiersdorf AG, has confirmed enthusiasm for the project, by which, he says, Beiersdorf aims to continue to develop its international profile and growth.
“With the construction of our new headquarters in Hamburg, Beiersdorf is sending a clear signal about its future growth. We have been very successful in recent years. We have significantly expanded our international business, developed outstanding innovations and put Beiersdorf on a stable and profitable growth path,” he says.
“Building a new headquarters shows the confidence we have in our business strengths. With this major investment, we are also expressing our commitment to Hamburg and Germany as business locations.”
