Symrise scoops gold status for sustainability management

Symrise has made the sustainability of its supply chain a key part of its business strategy and that goal has paid off with a gold status award from EcoVadis for its sustainability management.

The Germany-based fragrance, flavours and cosmetic ingredient player has won the award for the third time in a row for its work in improving ecological, social and sustainability matters in relation to its business operations.

Ecovadis scored Symrise in the top three percent of all rated companies, helping it to take this particular accolade, coming in with 72 out of a possible top score of 100.

Highest rating for the environment

This rating came in high above the sector average, and according to Symrise is also four points above its previous score this time last year.

The company scored particularly highly in the environmental segment, where it was among the top two percent in the category with a score of 80 points, while it also improved its production practices rating by four points to reach a score of 70.

“We are delighted that we have been able to further improve our production of fragrances and flavors,” says Hans Holger Gliewe, chief sustainability officer of Symrise. “Every employee who has contributed to this progress can be particularly proud of this result.”

Assessing 21 criteria

EcoVadis scores on a range of 21 different criteria that cover the environment, ethics and sustainability in the supply chain of a wide range of industries.

The company says it aims to help businesses better and more efficiently integrate best sustainability practices into their supply chains in an effort to improve efficiencies and benefit the environment.

“With the CSR rating from EcoVadis, Symrise is able to transparently present its sustainability services to both existing and new customers while establishing itself as a preferred partner”, said Gliewe.
