This year it is raising the stakes even further with the launch of two new ingredients – a silicone-alternative gelling agent and an oil soluble photoprotector – as well as participation at the event’s Formulation Lab.
Last year the company was ahead of the curb when it platformed its pore-shrinking ingredient Miniporyl at in-cosmetics Paris, an ingredient that helps give the skin a primer-like high definition.
Oil soluble photoprotector
Called Melinoil, the company’s photoprotector is said to be an oil soluble version of an MSH biomimetic peptide with a wide variety of hair and skin care applications.
Extensive trialling, both in vivo, ex vivo and clinicals, have determined that a 0.5% to 5.0% dosage can be particularly effective as an anti-ageing and cell turnover ingredient, while also soothing the skin and acting as a sunless tanning or tan accelerator.
Specific active properties include the ability to strengthen the skin’s natural skin photoprotection, enhances skin pigmentation, reducing sunburn symptoms, while also preventing photoageing and associated premature skin ageing.
Silicone alternative gelling agent
The quest for environmentally-friendly formulation alternatives often sends formulators on the lookout for alternatives to silicone-based products, which is why the Lucas Meyer development team have come up with Siligel.
This ingredient is said to have all the properties of similar silicone derived ingredients, including a silky skin feel and resistance to electrolytes, thanks to a combination of phospholipids and polysaccharides and natural elements that include sea water.
It is a multifunctional ingredient that can be used as a co-emulsifier, stabilizer and a suspending agent, that has strong skin feel properties, while also being effective at reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
Formulation Lab
The Formulation Lab was launched by the in-cosmetics team two years ago, and has proved to be a phenomenally popular concept that has been rolled out across the entire portfolio of in-cosmetics portfolio of events.
And this year Lucas Meyer will be getting involved with the lab sessions when it gives a demonstration of formulation techniques for Siligel.
The demonstration will take place at the Formulation Lab on Wednesday April 5th at 14:45 to 15:45 and will be given by Carole Corvez, who will be showing how easy the ingredient is to use.
During the session Corvez will explain about the development behind the ingredient, its unique properties and what a valuable tool it is as a silicone-free gelling agent.
