François Nars, a makeup artist and photographer who set up the makeup and skin care company in 1994, was awarded in recognition of a lifetime of innovative impact on the fashion and beauty industries, worldwide.
The award was established in 1802, and recognises the achievements of prominent French figures in promoting the nation’s key ideals.
Nars said on the award: “I am incredibly humbled and proud to receive this prestigious award – it is one of the greatest moments of my career. France is my homeland and will always have a special place in my heart. I am truly honoured.”
Nars is now a subsidiary of Japan-based beauty giant, Shiseido, under its travel retail division.
Unconventional beauty honoured
Speaking of the brand’s founder’s award, NARS president Barbara Calcagni noted that Nars has been recognised for his commitment to push the boundaries in beauty.
“It’s an honour and privilege to see François receive the Legion D’ Honneur award,” said Calcagni. “He believes in unconventional beauty and has dedicated his life to helping women break boundaries when it comes to makeup and this award is a testament to that.”
Looking ahead
According to media outlet DFNIOnline, NARS Cosmetics brand owner Shiseido Travel Retail has indicated there are set to be several developments for the label in the coming period.
“Spring 2017 will also see the opening of the first NARS travel-retail counter in the Middle East at Dubai International airport – representing a flagship for the brand and its largest counter in the travel-retail channel,” the publication says.
The brand appeared to confirm this in a statement: “Shiseido Travel Retail is proud to have NARS, an inspiring brand, within its portfolio and looks forward to exciting times ahead. Currently, there are a total of 22 NARS counters across travel-retail in the Americas and EMEA regions, with more openings to come in Asia Pacific in key locations such as Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.”
