Henkel launches CSR hairdressing project in Romania

Schwarzkopf manufacturer Henkel has launched a CSR project in Romania aimed at giving women greater confidence through hairdressing.

The project, Discover Your Beauty, was rolled out by Henkel’s Romanian business in October in four towns in Constanta, a Black Sea region of Romania.

Through the scheme, stylists and volunteers will offer an expected 160 girls and women hairdressing sessions.

“The project enters the list of social responsibilities initiatives of Henkel Romania that wants to support and encourage the girls and women to believe in their beauty and in their potential of succeeding in life,” said Gabriel Barbu, general manager of the beauty care division at Henkel Romania.

CSR initiatives

Discover Your Beauty follows in the footsteps of a similar Henkel scheme, the Schwarzkopf Professional Shaping Futures initiative.

Shaping Futures, which began in 2010 in collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages, is designed to offer disadvantaged youngsters by teaching them hairdressing skills.

It has seen 1,200 young people in 25 countries, including Cambodia, Poland, Vietnam, India, Morocco and South Africa, trained by volunteer hairdressers and employees.

In Germany, the scheme – run in collaboration with vocational schools in Hamburg and Nuremberg – saw young refugees given an opportunity to find out whether hairdressing could be a career for them.
