Based in Portland, Oregon, Shiro Cosmetics has caused a stir online in recent weeks with its line of products inspired by the world’s most famous wizard.
The beauty player launched the Harry Potter-inspired collection - Marauders, Mugwumps and Muggles - last Halloween.
The Marauders, Mugwumps and Muggles collection includes 20 eye shadow shades, with bewitching names like A Free Elf, He Who Must Not Be Named and The Boy Who Lived.
It also includes five lip gloss colours, including Polyjuice and Every Flavour Lip Gloss, and a bronzer called Milk Chocolate Frog and a shimmer face powder called White Chocolate Frog – all related to the cult fantasy series.
“Lots of orders”
Caitlin Johnstone established Shiro Cosmetics in 2010, aged 19. Six years on, it employs four people, who blend the product by hand every day in small batches in a laboratory in Portland, Oregon.
Publications, including the Huffington Post, reported on the Marauders, Mugwumps and Muggles collection in early October. Fans of the movie series - about a teen wizard - also flocked to Twitter to spread word of the range.
On 12 October, Shiro Cosmetic wrote on Facebook it had “lots of orders coming in” as a result, and on 27 October, Shiro Cosmetics had more than 1,300 orders queued.
“Thanks so much for your interest! We are a very small indie company with only four employees, and we personally make all of our products to order,” reads a post on the Shiro Cosmetics website.
“We are methodical and thorough, and at our best we’re capable of sending out 250 orders per week.”
