Natural beauty retailers awarded in the UK

National awards for the leading beauty retailers of natural products have been announced, with Waitrose, Debenhams and Beauty Kitchen among the winners.

The ‘Who’s Who in Natural Beauty’ awards are voted for by the natural and organic beauty industry, according to the organisers, and this year Jayn Sterland, managing director of Weleda UK, a brand that specialises in ‘natural, cruelty free bodycare and homeopathic medicines’, was picked out as the industry’s number one figure.

The awards, now in their ninth year, confirm the ongoing enthusiasm for naturals in the UK market and Europe more broadly. Holland and Barrett, LoveLula and Amaranth were other brands among those which won.

UK naturals: state of the market

Market research firm Euromonitor International has released its report on the preceding year for beauty and personal care in the UK, and naturals is one trend picked out for driving growth in an already saturated marketplace.

Last year, according to the research firm, “the health and wellness trend increased the demand for more natural organic products, and created a strong emphasis on quality ingredients and formulations.”

Safety is one major factor driving this turn towards the wellness trend, as consumers look to ensure the origin of the ingredients used in their skin care products. Euromonitor notes this is particularly dominant in the premium category last year.

“The demand for natural and better-quality ingredients was integral in driving the growth of premium products in bath and shower and baby and child-specific products, due to heightened concerns about harmful chemicals and parabens,” the firm explains.

Supporting vibrant sector

Organisers of the awards state one of the main motivations is to emphasize and further develop the strengthening profile of the natural beauty market in the UK.

“Highlighting the valuable contributions and support of retailers to the vibrant natural and organic beauty market, the Natural Beauty Retail Awards celebrate the industry’s dedication and innovations in offering their customers a great retail experience, at the same time as promoting natural and organic beauty for all,” the organisers, Natural Beauty News, state.
