RPG owner Harsh Goenka, announced the partnership at the beginning of this week, sending shares in his company surging by 15% on the National Stock Exchange of India.
The company is betting that the partnership with the Italian company will help bring European panache to the launch of a new cosmetics line that will also serve to broaden its portfolio into a fast growing market.
In-licensing two brands
The partnership will see the two companies combine on an in-licensing for two product ranges that are due to be launched on to the Indian market next month.
RPG Life Sciences, which is a part of the RPG Group, has created a second division for the product launches, which will be branded as Crescina and Fillerina.
Hair re-growth
Crescina is a topical hair re-growth product that already has a worldwide distribution, including nine patents worldwide.
The Crescina line of preparations are designed to extend cell longevity and fight against ageing, in turn promoting the physiological regrowth of hair.
The topical line is designed for scalp application and includes three different products – Crescina Re-growth topical treatment, Crescina HFSC 100% and Crescina Hair Follicular Islands – together with an accompanying shampoo.
Dermo-cosmetic plumping gel
Fillerina is marketed as the first dermo-cosmetics plumping gel, and is formulated with six hyaluronic acids to give a professional dermatology-style treatment, at home.
It comes in three different concentrations of hyaluronic acid, aimed at treating different stages of photoaging damage, as well as being designed for skin at different ages.
All three grades of the product are said to moisturize, plump and smooth the appearance of skin to tackle signs of ageing such as wrinkles and sagging.
Hair-loss and anti-ageing
“We recognise the need for research-based result-oriented treatments in hair-loss and anti-ageing segments in India,” said C T Renganathan, managing director, RPG Life Sciences.
“Labo has a Switzerland-based research center and the experience of developing a wide range of patented products in hair, skin and body care. Their products have presence in over 33 countries including Europe, UK, US and Asia.”
The company is hoping that the launch of these products will tap into significant growth in the Indian market, where the value of the cosmetics and personal care sector is expected to increase in double digit figures during the course of 2016.
