BASF unveils new aroma technologies at World Perfumery Congress
BASF took the opportunity to showcase its latest aroma launches at the recent World Perfumery Congress, which was held in Miami, Florida.

The biennial event is a forum to highlight latest technologies and trends in the global fragrance and aroma market, and this year BASF was a premium event sponsor.

During the event, the company announced that its new aroma ingredients complex in Kuantan, Malaysia is on track to be opened soon, and also highlighted its complete aroma portfolio, as well as the addition of two new fragrances.

Two new aroma launches

BASF took the opportunity to launch two new ingredients at the event – Methylionone 70 and dihydrorosane, both of which are being targeted as multifunctional fragrances.

Methylionone 70 comes in a clear yellowish liquid form and is said to provide a unique floral, velvety, violet and orris fragrance with some woody notes, making it ideal for any type of fragrance application.

Diyhydrorosane is the newest addition to the extensive rose fragrance portfolio, and is said to have a rosy-floral aroma, with the addition of herbal notes.

One of the world’s biggest aroma players

BASF is currently one of the biggest aroma and fragrance players in the world, and is particularly active in supplying the cosmetics and personal care sector, through its Nutrition and Health division, which also includes all of its fragrance and aroma portfolios.

Currently its broad portfolio comprises citral, while its downstream products include a wide variety of products such as L-menthol, geraniol, linalool and citronellol.

“With the launch of methylionone 70 and dihydrorosane, our customers can source additional high-quality aroma ingredients with great value from BASF.” said Christian Seufert, vice president BASF Aroma Ingredients.

JV with Petronas Chemicals in Malaysia

The new fragrance facility in Kuantan, Malaysia is being constructed as a joint venture with the chemicals division of Malaysian conglomerate Petronas.

“Our customers will benefit from better product availability and a high level of supply reliability and security in the medium-term,” said Seufert.

The company also said that construction of the complex is on track and first production quantities are expected to hit the market by the end of 2016.
