Seppic and Total Fluides join forces to develop bio-sourced emollients

French ingredients player Seppic has teamed up with Total Fluides to develop a range of bio-sourced emollients and to explore new development opportunities in the cosmetics market.

The agreement was signed last week right before the in-cosmetics trade show in Paris, and two of the emollient ranges from this venture, EmoSmart and EmoGreen, were unveiled at the event.

Speaking to Sabrina Mizaël, Emulsifiers & Emollients Product Manager, at the show, she said that because of the increasing demand for sensorial products that are also safe, these two ingredients have been developed.

Total Fluides, which is part of the TOTAL Group, is a recognized international producer and marketer of high-purity fluid alkanes, and signed the deal with Seppic for emollient development and marketing.

Seppic says the cooperation will lead to the launch of a complete range of high-purity alkane emollients including a brand new range of bio-sourced, biodegradable emollients that fully responds to the strong demands of today's cosmetics market.

Combining their applied and commercial expertise, respectively in cosmetic markets and development and production of highly purified molecules, Seppic and Total Fluides have worked on the two new biodegradable products that were showcased at in-cosmetics.

EmoSmart is an inert chemical structure from synthetic origin, while EmoGreen is from plant origin; and both are suitable for versatile applications in skin and hair care, make-up, sun care, and cleansing.

The EmoGreen range, beyond its full biodegradability, is also 100% bio-sourced, and Seppic says it is the ideal alternative to silicone oils for consumers looking for naturalness and environmental respect.

For the French firm, the development of this new range of ingredients complies with a responsible approach on the long term and meets the requirements of its customers and consumers in terms of environment and health.

“EMOGREEN and EMOSMART are ideal partners to create more sustainable beauty care products with an outstanding sensory experience,” adds Mizaël.

Award winner…

The in-cosmetics trade show last week was also a success for Seppic as it won the Green Ingredients Gold Award for its active ingredient, derived from the technological innovation in cellular culture of macroalgae, called Ephemer.

The award was granted by a jury of experts in the industry and recognises an ingredient having a significant impact on preserving the environment and used for over one year in cosmetic applications.

Ephemer is a gametophyte extract taken from macroalgae cells cultivated in a laboratory and harvested at an ephemeral stage in the life cycle of Undaria Pinnatifida seaweed.
