The global company has significant business in Japan, where it counts a number of major manufacturers as its customers.
It has made the move in an effort to deepen the relationship with its existing customers, while also hoping to be able to extend its footprint in Japan, which still remains one of the largest consumer markets in the world.
New head for Japan business
To head up the business in Japan, IMCD has appointed Shunsaku Kubo as Managing Director IMCD Japan. while the appointment will be effective from 1 April 2016.
Kubo holds a Bachelor degree of Chemical Engineering from the Kobe University in Japan and MBA from University of Leicester in UK. He also brings twenty four years of experience in senior managerial positions, having worked for some of the leading chemical companies, the company stated in a press release.
The move is also part of wider plans to extend its footprint in supplying fine chemicals to the cosmetics and personal care and food industries, amongst others, throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Expanding in the Asia Pacific region
The new Japan office now forms part of IMCD’s expanding network of active countries within the region, namely Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
“We have some very strong relationships with leading Japanese suppliers of high quality ingredients and by opening of this office we want to be closer to them and further strengthen that good relationship,” said Gabriele Bonomi, Executive Committee member of IMCD.
“In addition, we intend to bring some of our existing top class suppliers to the Japanese market, utilising our global market presence and product knowledge.”
