Sun Chemicals acquires UK decorative color cosmetics provider
With the acquisition, Sun Chemical will expand its global position in the decorative color cosmetics marketplace. Together with Kingfisher’s complementary color portfolio, the company says it is able to provide cosmetics formulators innovative styling looks while further expanding color space capabilities.
The company adds that, through the acquisition, the addition of the Kingfisher’s European-based production sites will enhance its global cosmetics colors manufacturing capabilities and will allow for further penetration into developing markets.

“The addition of Kingfisher’s diverse, high quality product lines and specialized tailor-made products will further expand Sun Chemical’s cosmetics and personal care product offerings globally,” said Myron Petruch, president of Sun Chemical Performance Pigments.
“Sun Chemical has experienced tremendous growth in the global cosmetics market and this acquisition will help us grow quickly into this strategic market and enable us to better serve our customers.”
James Ward, supply chain director at Sun Chemical Performance Pigments, will manage Kingfisher Colours and its integration into Sun Chemical’s existing global cosmetics business led by Bart Vanderbiest, the global director of cosmetics.
Kingfisher Colours is a privately-owned cosmetics color manufacturer serving the global cosmetics and personal care industry and is over 30 years old. It portfolio of cosmetic pigments includes FDA certified colorants, inorganic and surface treated pigments.
Previous moves to expand the business
The acquisition builds on Sun Chemicals footprint in the color pigments market for cosmetics, after it significantly expanded its presence in the category when it increased its Intenza pigments line from six to 13, targeting all areas of the color cosmetics market.
In addition to this, the company also announced the expansion of its color cosmetics pigments business worldwide in 2013 by investing in a dedicated sales teams, local warehousing and lab support throughout the region.
At the time the company said that the expanded presence would help it perform additional support on a regional level to meet demand for its pigment chemicals in the cosmetics and personal care field, as well as coating, inks, plastics and other specialties markets.
The move has also helped the company to increase its dedicated local services team to support customers with technical issues, quality control and commercial development for a wide range of pigments in its portfolio.
