The new Actipone range is manually pressed without the use of any solvents, and the juice varieties are fully traceable and certified organic, according to the ingredient supplier. Their proven effects in cosmetic applications range from moisturizing properties to soothing and antioxidant ones, and Symrise says that the ingredients can be used in both hair and skin care applications.
The range takes its cue from the ‘green smoothie’ trend which has taken off in the nutrition market and offers an alternative to the standard fruity options, originating in the US and the UK and now spreading around the globe.
Traditional plants have long been used in food, as tea and for herbal medicines and skin care, while studies have also confirmed that fresh plant juices have strong antioxidant capacities as well as soothing and moisturizing properties.
“With this new area of application for traditional plants, we’re giving our customers the opportunity to create trendy and inspiring plant concepts for different product categories,” says Simon Peter, Global Product Manager Botanicals at Symrise.
“Our freshly pressed plant juices transfer the green juicing trend to cosmetics with fresh, unadulterated, effective and organic ingredients.”
Range
All plant juices from Symrise have received a unique, new INCI name because within the INCI standards the descriptor ‘juice’ has been previously used for mainly fruits and vegetables.
The plants are harvested near the company’s production site to obtain the freshest, most unadulterated and most natural juice possible, and most of the plants are grown organic and fully traceable back to the field; with Ecocert certification underway.
The portfolio includes dandelion, horsetail, melissa, ribwort and stinging nettles, grown and harvested in Germany, and high-grade ginger juice from Sri Lanka.
The Actipone ‘Fresh Plant Juices’ range has also made its mark on the industry too, taking third place in the 2015 BSB Innovation Award in the category ‘Most Innovative Natural Products – Raw Materials’ during this year’s in-cosmetics in Barcelona.
