Unilever Benelux made the announcement, warning consumers of a possible safety issue with the 50ml bottles only, stating there had been no complaints as yet, and that no other products Neutral is involved.
The affected batch is identified by the codes on the cap starting with four digits of 4148 to 4182 and the barcode: 8710522023471, found on the back of the roller.
Quality control
Unilever Belgium’s communications manager Freek Bracke told journalists that during quality control tests traces of bacteria were discovered, and this can have an impact on the health of those with weakened resistance.
He says that people with breathing problems and those that have been in hospital for a long time are especially at risk, whilst being keen to stress that the company has, as yet, not received any complaints.
The amount of deodorants it is thought to affect is around 1000, as they are not sold very widely in Belgium; the only place the recall is necessary.
“As we have asked the shops to remove them from their shelves there are only a limited number in circulation,” says Bracke.
Do not use
The discovery was made during a regular quality control check in which a limited number Neutral Roll-On deodorants (50ml) did not meet Unilever’s strict quality standards.
If discovered they are in possession of the affected products or have used them, consumers are asked to contact their physician.
The company also asks consumers who are in possession of one or more of the relevant Roll-On Deodorants not to use the product and send it to the label on the back.
