Oat Cosmetics releases new data for colloidal oatmeal ingredient

UK-based cosmetics ingredients supplier Oat Cosmetics has released new clinical trial data demonstrating the rapid and sustained anti-ageing effects of its Oat COM (extruded Colloidal Oatmeal) ingredient.

Produced using a unique patented process that enhances the availability of beta glucan, Oat Cosmetics' Colloidal Oatmeal contains natural antioxidants and is rich in essential fatty acids and lipids.

According to the company, the clinical trial carried out by an independent consumer research facility demonstrated that Oat COM could be an effective active across different skin types, contributing anti-ageing properties by nourishing, moisturising and soothing the skin.

Moisturising and soothing properties

Some 53 female subjects above the age of 40 applied a cream containing Oat COM at 3% to the face once a day for 90 days. Participants were carefully selected to ensure normal, sensitive and dry skin types were equally represented, and were questioned after 30, 60 ad 90 days of application.

Oat Cosmetics highlights that upon initial application, the subjects found the product to be non-greasy, easily absorbed and leaving no tacky after feel. Additionally, they believed their skin felt soft after use.

Over 90 days, 73% of subjects said the product soothed their skin, and 79% said it nourished their skin. Some 80% stated their skin felt silky soft from using the product, and 86% said it consistently left their skin feeling moisturised.

"Having these results after 30 days is very impressive but to keep them high after 90 days is almost unheard of and confirms Oat COM (extruded Colloidal Oatmeal) provides a variety of exceptional long-term skin care benefits," said Ed Galley of Ed Galley Associates.

Angus Robertson, Oat Cosmetics' business development manager, added, "The trial underpins our confidence that our advanced Colloidal Oatmeal, Oat COM is a proven and effective active ingredient for skin care creams and lotions".

He explained that Oat COM outperforms other colloidal oatmeal as it is manufactured using carefully selected high β-glucan varieties of oat (Avena sativa), and the use of a unique extrusion process improves its activity and functionality.
