First forum to combine colour metrology & pigment advancements focus

Organisers of the 'Pigment and Colour Science Forum' say they will for the first time, provide a platform for all segments of the pigment sector, after professionals in the area highlighted a lack of connection across the departments.

Global consultants and market analysts 'Smithers Rapra' are behind the event they say will provide a deeper connection between academic, R&D and performance engineering segments, which they reckon has been lacking until now, based on their experience in conferences across the industrial pigments and colourants sector.

Set to be held in Rome in October, the three day event is launching under one campaign and features an advisory board of experts that have been assembled to design a programme that covers a wide range of perspectives all along the pigment value chain.

According to Andrew Smaha, Smithers Rapra conference director; “After years of successful co-located Future of Pigments and the Colour Cosmetics Summit events, industry leaders have expressed that there is no longer a need to present separate tracks for their sectors."

"After exhaustive conversations with advisors and attendees, we were able to put our finger on the fact that all in attendance were at their essence devoted to pigment and colour science for various end-use industries," he adds.

Thus with this specialised forum, Smaha says the event programme and workshops have been designed specifically to incorporate a variety of industry experts across segments including; academics involved in pigments, research entities, colour designers, major pigment manufacturers, industrial standards officers, pigment tooling/measuring/consistency companies, and buyers in the areas of paint and coatings and cosmetics.

Conference programme

Top subjects and sector issues to be addressed are set to include innovations and advancements in process equipment, analysis and testing, colour cosmetics, R&D, design aesthetics, shade matching, regulation, nanomaterials, and formulation consistency.

Specialised talks will focus on advancements in pigment chemistry, particularly the implications and developments of certain ingredients, which will be delivered by professor Antonio Domenech- Carbo of analytical chemistry at the University of Valencia.

As well as a look into 'Advances in colour meteorology', which will be presented by Jack Ladson, Principal of Colour Science Consultancy. For a full view of the programme, please see here.
