Boy designs deodorant that plays Rocky theme tune, goes viral

An 11-year old boy may be making packaging designers sit up and think after he re-designed an Old Spice deodorant stick to play the theme tune to the Rocky film when it is used, creating a big impact on the internet and social media.

News of the invention, which has been reported across countless online news providers, focuses on the simplicity of the invention, which young inventor Quinn Sheeran says he was able to put together in a matter of minutes.

The regular Old Spice deodorant stick was adapted using the electronic musical device from a birthday card, which was simply attached to the base of the deodorant using regular sticking tape.

The standard trigger for the musical device was then attached to the top of the deodorant using more tape, which means that every time the top is removed, it activates the world renowned Rocky them tune.

A film of the Sheeran explaining the idea behind the device and how it works was posted on the social media site Reddit earlier this week and has since become the most popular post, with more than 500 comments.

“All I did was disassemble a regular birthday card that plays music when you open it – in this case it was the Rocky theme tune,” said Sheeran.

“I reassembled it on the deodorant, and then attached coil to the top of the cap and I ripped off the tag that you would play it with, then I attached the coil to the part that plays the tune. “

In the video, a bespectacled Sheeran, looking every inch the mini inventor, is then seen ripping off the top of the deodorant, which in turn activates the theme tune.

Although the idea is very simple and the device has been put together by the inventor with little regard for aesthetics, it has really captured the imagination of the internet and social media community, who have largely applauded the invention, both for its simplicity and its effectiveness.
