CTPA hits back at 'unsafe' fake tan claims
It's been less than a year since CTPA rubbished media reports that using self-tanning sprays may not be safe. Even then it had been the second time the body had spoken out against sensationalized claims that “spray tans can give you cancer”.
The ingredient behind all the furor, dihydroxyacetone or 'DHA', one of the most commonly used self-tanning ingredients was reported by US scientists that it had potential risks when inhaled and absorbed into the bloodstream triggering asthma, lung cancer, and emphysema.
However, CTPA stepped up to remind consumers that the SCCS has looked into the chemical and ruled it safe to use under its current concentrations.
