Conference focuses in on challenges of formulating with naturals
The Naturals in Cosmetic Science symposium will take place at the Royal College of Physicians in London, from April 30th to May 1st, and targets formulators and cosmetic chemists both from the UK and globally.
The first event of its kind, the organisers say that they would like to turn it into a ‘must attend’ bi-annual event aimed at keeping delegates up to date with developments in this ever-growing and increasingly innovative area of cosmetics science.
Leading experts in the naturals field
“We have brought together an unprecedented collection of world renowned speakers and educators to share their knowledge, experience and best practice,” the SCC said in its accompanying literature to support the event.
“The programme was developed to answer many of the questions that our members said they would like to debate and learn more about. Natural, sustainable raw materials are here to stay and science is only just scratching the surface of their amazing properties and benefits for consumer products.”
The conference programme will open up with a session entitled ‘Landscaping – The Natural Environment’, which will highlight the key challenges faced with formulating for this category.
The line up of speakers on the first day will also include Jo Fairley, who is the co-founder of organic chocolate company Green & Black, and will be talking about the evolution of the natural beauty shopper and confusion of green claims and naturals labelling.
Exploration of green technologies
Other first day presentations will give an exploration of green technologies and green initiatives currently available to cosmetic formulators, as well as an interactive educational seminar led by Dr Pauline Hili from the Natural Products Factory that will provide insights into the development of successful natural and organic products.
The second day of the prgramme will start off with an opening talk entitled ‘Naturals – The Thorny Issues’, which will look at supply chain management issues such as the sourcing and production of natural and renewable ingredients.
Finally, the afternoon of day two will include a seminar entitled ‘The Potting Shed and Greenhouse’, which will look at natural and organic standards for cosmetics, while the final session will provide a round-up of the conference programme and analyse how all the information from the presentations can be put into practice.
