The UK-based company ‘Rejuvenated’, founded by a beauty industry veteran of 37 years has developed the drink around marine collagen as they believe it contains higher bioavailability than the commonly used bovine collagen and gets to work a lot quicker to stimulate collagen synthesis and skin hydration.
According to founder Kathryn Danzey, drinking the shots rather than using an anti-ageing cream “ensures that collagen gets down to the dermal layers, is absorbed and can be used throughout the whole body rather than in the superficial sense.”
The Science behind the drink
Danzey explains that collagen levels diminish by 1.5 per cent per year after the age of 25, and clinical trials have shown that drinking 10g of collagen per day gives an average 41 per cent reduction in lines and 91 per cent increase in hydration.
“The unique combination of ingredients work synergistically to synthesise more collagen, strengthen connective tissue and arterial walls.”
With this supplement, the Rejuvenated CEO says that the main goal was to feature ten grams of marine extract collagen at an affordable retail price of £30 (€35).
"All the clinical trials that we found had been done with ten grams of collagen of marine extract. Bovine and chicken collagen is much cheaper, but we wanted to make sure that we were using the most synergistic blend possible,” she explains.
Although Danzey says the drink can be taken at any time of the day, her team recommends around half an hour before bed time and at least three hours after a main meal, so that the body can process the collagen quickly, particularly through the first two hours of sleep when the regeneration of cells actually take place.
Research into the area..
According to Danzey, many trials have shown that taking collagen supplements will replace what's lost from the skin to make it firmer and more hydrated and that 'Collagen Shots' containing essential amino acids, embraces these latest scientific findings.
She points to particular studies such as 2008 trials in Tokyo whereby they found that [14] of 33 women ages 40-60 who took 10 g of hydrolyzed collagen daily for two months showed 91 per cent saw an increase in skin hydration and resilience.
Whilst elsewhere a recent Dermiscan study in France showed similar findings in an age group of 35-55 who seen an increase in skin smoothness and hydration after 12 weeks of 10g hydrolyzed collagen daily using Corneometer and Skin Image Analyzer technologies.
