The award named after the late Professor Tyler who has been described as one of the most respected men in late 20th century herbal medicine and the study of materials of natural origin, will see the American Botanical Council present it to Horphag Research due to its continous investment and development in an extract that claims it improves visible signs of skin ageing.
"We are very honoured to receive this prestigious award. It is an important recognition for the scientific work that has been established over 40 years,” says CEO Victor Ferrari.
"Receiving the American Botanical Council's Tyler Award provides not only credibility to our scientific work, but also a tremendous motivation to our team to continue providing scientific evidence on a multitude of benefits of Pycnogenol," he adds.
According to Horphag, the extensive study of Pycnogenol has resulted in more than 100 published clinical studies and 300 scientific publications over the years, with recent ones showing its abilities to reduce perimenopausal symptoms and improve skin hydration and elasticity.
The company has been researching and developing the extract since 1965, has been on the European market since 1967 and has obtained a US patent since 1987.
Deserving of the award
Mark Blumenthal, founder and executive director of the American Botanical Council (ABC) states that professor Tyler was one of his key mentors over twenty years and would have fully endorsed ABC's choosing of Horphag this year to receive his eponymous award.
"He repeatedly emphasized his desire to see herb companies invest in scientific and clinical research on their herb and phytomedicinal products. I have no doubt that if he were alive today, he would fully endorse this desicision."
Adding that; "Horphag Research is the epitome of a research-based natural products company, investing millions of dollars in scores of clinical research trials on its key product, Pycnogenol."
The Tyler Phytomedicinal Research Award will be presented at the 8th Annual American Botanical Celebration and Awards Ceremony on March 7th in Anaheim, California.
