Nova develops hydration technology to help with skin care research
The singerie software (DPM 9003) featuring Bluetooth technology is said to measure skin impedance while also providing a non-invasive, reproducible method to quantify biophysical characteristics and hydration of the skin.
As research expands into areas like the impact of active ingredients on the skin, Nova says it has specifically designed applications like this to cater to the personal care industry in formulation development or clinical testing areas.

According to the technology specialist, this application gives dermatology and skin care researchers the opportunity to collect skin hydration data while also using an iPad mobile digital service to capture a test site image, when determining the healing rate of skin for example.
A company representative adds that the DPM 9003's ability to “conduct non-invasive skin research has proved extremely beneficial to researchers studying diseases like psoriasis or skin conditions that arise from post-surgery or chemical treatments.”
DPM impedance technology is said to have been used extensively in dermatological research, yet Nova says that until now, researchers limited their activities in the area of skin hydration.
Going forward, Nova says it will continue to develop and manufacture instruments that measure various biophysical properties of the skin for dermatologists as well as the personal care industry.

Global cosmetic company P.L.Thomas recently introduced a ceramide-containing moisturising ingredient to the North American market for the first time, that it says when taken orally or topically, helps to improve skin hydration.
According to the company, adding ceramides (lipid molecules found in the cell membranes) to the system, either topically or orally, can help improve skin hydration and ease the associated roughness, itching and redness.
Lipowheat has previously been available for some time in Europe and Asia, and is manufactured by France-based company Hitex, part of the Lavipharm group.
P.L.Thomas has also recently launched SkinGestPSOR, an oral ingredient for psoriasis sufferers, and revealed that edible beauty will be an increased focus for the company in the years ahead.
