Sustainable Cosmetics Summit to take place in Latin America

São Paulo, Brazil will provide the venue for the first Sustainable Cosmetics Summit to be held in the fast growing and evolving Latin America market.

Organizer Organic Monitor says the event will take place 24 – 26th September and will cover topics specific to the market, centered around business and technical issues pertaining to natural cosmetics and their sustainable production.

Specific themes that will be particularly relevant to the Latin American market will include biodiversity and ethical sourcing, sustainable ingredients and marketing best-practices.

The ethical and sustainable sourcing of raw materials in the region is particular pertinent because there are vast resources, which need to be tapped into responsibly.

Beraca will provide the opening presentation

The opening speaker at the event will be Daniel Sabara, president of ingredients company Beraca, who will give an in depth case study into how his company has implemented a number of ethical and sustainable projects, namely in the resource rich Amazon basin.

Other presentations will include a Colombian ingredients company that will discuss the challenges of developing actives from rare plan species, while also providing social support for indigenous communities that help to farm the materials.

The comprehensive three day itinerary will also include an interactive workshop given by the event’s technical director Judi Beerling, which will specifically examine the technical and formulation challenges presented by using green ingredients.

Marketing green cosmetics

Likewise, marketing green cosmetics will be examined in a best-practices session that will take a look at claims, pitfalls and challenges and the potential of organic cosmetics in the region.

A focus will also be given to sustainability initiatives and the role that beauty companies can play in this arena, with the two largest Brazilian cosmetics companies – Natura and Grupo Boticario - making specific contributions in this part of the program.

The latest edition to the summit portfolio increases the geographic coverage of these popular events, adding to annual events held in New York, Paris and Hong Kong, to represent the North America, European and Asia Pacific markets respectively.

More details about the program and interviews with speakers will follow in the run up to the event, while current information about the event can also be found on the dedicated websiste, www.sustainablecosmeticssummit.com/.
