Silab jump on the artichoke bandwagon with its new anti-ageing active

Silab are the latest company to focus on the benefits of the Artichoke plant by launching Menofit, an active specifically for menopausal skin.

Manufacturers who aim to bring a ‘unique product’ to the table in today’s cosmetic industry are required to seek out natural, active, protective, restorative or sustainable ingredients to keep up with the demand of the consumer and competitiveness of the market.

This year, artichoke was the new kid on the block, as products derived from its natural and restorative plant were appearing throughout the industry. Products containing the plant’s extracts, have, so far only appeared in hair care products.

Skin care

The active, rich in purified peptides from artichoke leaves has been developed to counteract the menopausal-related hormonal ageing.

According to Silab, “This product helps cell deficiencies in the dermis and epidermis, maintaining the thickness of the skin, increasing hydration and reducing wrinkles thus approaching the qualities of premenopausal skin”.

Tried and Tested

On carrying out vivo and in vitro objectivation tests, the company noticed that the product was specifically beneficial in the areas such as skin thickening and skin hydration.

After 56 days of twice-daily applications, a 3% formula of Menofit emulsion significantly increased the thickness of cutaneous tissue of certain subjects in menopausal skin, enabling them to recover a skin thickness that is comparable to that of non-menopausal subjects", a company spokesperson told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

"By increasing the cutaneous tissue thickness of the menopausal group, Menofit makes it possible to limit the thinning of cutaneous tissue due to the hormonal changes attributed to menopause", they added.

In terms of improving skin hydration, Silab confirmed that “After 14 days of twice-daily applications, a 3% formula of MENOFIT emulsion significantly increased the skin water content in subjects in group A."
