UK-headquartered manufacturer Rexam has expanded its personal care packaging production facility in Excelsior Springs, Missouri to meet growing customer demand.

The current production facility will expand by more than 50 percent in response to increased demand for its custom molded components including injection molded plastic packaging for the personal care industry.

This expansion further demonstrates our commitment to supporting customer growth as we build on our existing high-quality operations and continue our focus on delivering world-class quality products and services to our customers,” stated Julie Vergnion category manager at Rexam personal care division.

Molding and assembly equipment will also be added to the facility as part of the expansion to continue revenue growth that has already expanded three-fold growth in the last ten years, the company claims.

The Missouri-based production facility manufactures packaging including airless packaging, dispensers and tubes for distribution to the Midwestern United States.

Growing industry

Global personal care packaging as a whole grew seven percent in 2010 from the year prior, an indicator that the industry is recovering from the economic downturn, according to a packaging report by Rexam.

Sales in personal care are also forecast to increase three percent each year to 2014.

Flexible packaging was the biggest pack type used in terms of volume in 2010 for the personal care market accounting for 50 percent of the global total.

In line with this growth, Rexam recently launched airless and foam dispensing packs worldwide. The airless dispensing tube LX 500 for the body care market is a single pump-tube combination which provides the company claims provides enhanced protection.

With the rapid transition to very sophisticated ingredients, our body care customers need dispensing systems that protect the formula, run on high-speed filling lines with existing machines, shorten supply chains, handle large dosages of viscous product -- and have superior consumer appeal,” stated Virginie Lemeunier, product manager Rexam personal care division.
