Rahn has termed its new Slimexir active ingredient the ‘silhouette refiner’ claiming it slims down the body whilst also fighting excessive fat.
The ingredient composition consists of X-Melt, which is a blend of methyl xanthines, extract of artichoke (cynara scolymus) and the polysaccharide levan.
A Rahn spokesperson told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com that the X-Melt composition prevents the uptake of fat into the fat storing cells, by reducing their rate of maturation.
Triggers the breakdown of existing fat
In addition, each of Slimexir’s components activate lipolysis, which is the break down of lipids, in turn triggering the fragmentation and decomposition of the existing fat.
The X-Melt and the artichoke extract then stimulate microcirculation of the skin and assist the transport of the broken down fat, Rahn explains.
Furthermore, levan, which is a naturally produced biopolymer provides a tightening effect on the skin. Levan is shown to exert good cell-proliferating, skin moisturising, and skin irritation-alleviating effects as a blending component in cosmetics.
Tests showed reduction in adipocyte formulation
According to the ingredients firm, in-vitro testing showed that Slimexir prevents the formulation of new fat cells as well as reduces the lipid accumulation in the fat cells.
The in-vitro study also showed that the ingredient stimulates the degradation of existing fat and triggers the fragmentation of lipid droplets, whilst an in-vivo test noted a significant reduction in abdomen volume.
The ideal application for the active ingredient, according to its formulator, is in body care products for toning and shaping, such as gels and emulsions.
