Aimed at fine fragrances and luxury cosmetic packaging, the new lasers that Solev have invested in produce decoration on metalilised or lacquered surfaces, creating what the France-based company refers to as a micro-detail and micro-hatching finish.
This technique is said to not only give packaging designer greater freedom and choice, but it also helps to provide added detail and an enhanced finish – vital qualities in the luxury packaging segment.
Laser finish for fragrance bottles
The finish is ideal for glass fragrance bottles, providing a means of enhancing both the thickness and radiance of the glass, and in turn helping to give the fragrance itself additional impact.
Ultimately the effect helps to refract light, emphasizing the contrast between the bright sheen of the metal finish and the glass itself.
Likewise, the effect also provides the opportunity for what the company describes as ‘ultra-discreet, highly contemporary micro-graphics’, giving the product an up-market branding opportunity.
Laser finish also available in black
The company says that the Ultra-finesse technique can also be used on a new 100 per cent deep black non-metallic lacquer, helping to provide a combination of finishes that currently cannot be provided with traditional decoration techniques.
Likewise, as well as glass, the finish can be applied to certain crystalline or tinted plastics, including PMMA and PP.
“Solev lasers produce an hatching that is invisible to the human eye when the object is held at arm’s length… the overriding effect is one of transparency, metallic sheen and one that ultimately provides reflections on the fragrance,” a company spokesperson said.
