The balm provides medicated and anti-bacterial protection through its natural ingredient Phenol.

FDA approved ingredient

A spokesperson for eos told CosmeticsDesign.com USA that Phenol is an FDA approved ingredient which is proven to be a safe and effective anti-bacterial agent.

“So many germs are picked up on our lips everyday, with the risk that many of them go into our mouth. The anti-bacterial protection provided by the Phenol in our lip balm, helps to prevent the spread of these germs therefore, helping to prevent coughs and colds and other flu bugs.”

Phenol is used in other cold fighting products, such as Chloroseptic, due to its antiseptic properties.

The lip balm also contains a range of antioxidants including vitamins A, C and E, and zinc to moisturize and heal chapped lips. Jojoba oil and shea butter are also used for this effect.

“eos Tangerine Medicated is completely safe for daily use. It is also packed with antioxidants and other ingredients to rejuvenate lips. The additional moisturizing ingredients also soothe dry, chapped lips, which are also common symptoms of cold sores,” said the spokesperson.

Flu season hits the US

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011’s cold winter and flu season is underway, with 24 out of the 50 states already reporting flu outbreaks since the start of the year.

The Smooth Sphere lip balm’s design aims to fight the spread of germs as it is designed to be applied directly to the lips without the use of fingers, and thus decreasing the risk of spreading bacteria.
