Natural Beauty Summit Europe 2010 looks beyond natural and organic

Looking beyond natural and organic is the aim of this year’s Natural Beauty Summit Europe, the sixth edition of which is taking place on 22nd and 23rd November 2010 in Paris.

Devised by natural and organic beauty industry consultants Sandie Jaidane and Michel Gutsatz, the event will examine several themes including European cosmetics labelling and biodiversity, and will feature speakers from NaTrue, Weleda, Dr Hauschka and Burt’s Bees.

“This year, we wanted to tackle the two-day summit by exploring four major themes per day, allowing us to look at each theme in detail thanks to contributions from different experts that are bringing complementary or opposing views,” Jaidane, from SJ Consultancy and Training told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

“We're providing foresight and perspective, not just a simple snapshot of issues and problems of today. We anticipate the inevitable changes of a changing marketplace,” she added.

Biodiversity a key theme

The event kicks off with a discussion about which market segmentation to adopt for natural and organic cosmetics, with input from Kline, Datamonitor and Natura. Another session looks at identifying European consumers of natural products, and the final two sessions highlight new European distribution strategies as well as examining pharmacies as a potential retail channel.

The second day of the event will be almost entirely dedicated to the sustainable development challenge, said Jaidane, and will examine areas including ethical marketing strategies and sustainable cosmetics packaging.

Jaidane highlighted the Natural Beauty Summit is the only summit to tackle the themes of biodiversity, biopiracy and intellectual property, both together and with different approaches. Debating these issues will be speakers from Phytotrade Africa, Ainy and Alban Muller International.

Looking at the future ISO standard

Rounding off the event is the eighth and final session, with representatives from Febea, Cosmebio, Ecocert and NaTrue exploring natural and organic regulation for cosmetics.

“A highlight of the Natural Beauty Summit will be the presentation of labels and standards in European natural cosmetics: the new European standards for natural cosmetics and their progress against the existing international labels,” said Jaidane.

“Lead by Isabella Orquevaux from FEBEA who sits in the ISO working group, we will discuss the future of the exclusive international ISO standard for natural cosmetics, which will be introduced within the next few years.”
