Sustainable Cosmetics Summit prepares to open its doors

A series of in-depth technical programmes and workshops will highlight some of the most pressing issues concerning the production of greener cosmetic products.

The three day event will open its doors in Paris on October 18 and will include two days of presentations divided into four segments, which will be given on the first two days, together with two workshops, given on the last day, October 20.

Sustainability is really coming to the fore as an industry issue these days, leaving many companies wondering just how they can reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining consumer appeal and competitive edge.

Targeting all industry players

Organised by market researcher Organic Monitor, the event targets a cross spectrum of professionals involved in the industry, including retailers and distributors, cosmetics manufacturers, academics and researchers, industry organisations and packaging companies.

With this in mind, the four presentation programmes have been designed to hit all bases, in an attempt to connect with professionals from all areas of the industry.

On Monday, October 18, the presentation programme will focus on lowering the environmental impact, while in the afternoon the focus will be on green formulations and ingredients.

Environmental impact and green formulations

The environmental impact session will have presentations concerning sustainable sourcing of ingredients and carbon footprint measurement, while the formulation segment will include presentations on organic fragrances and the latest on natural actives.

The presentations will start on Tuesday, October 19, the morning session will focus on marketing and distribution, followed by an afternoon segment focused on sustainable packaging.

The marketing and distribution segment will include presentations on marketing sustainability values and the potential of social media, while the packaging segment will have presentations on recycled packaging options and reduction of packaging.

Paraben-free preservatives and practical guide to sustainable packaging

Meanwhile, the workshops on Wednesday, October 20, will also be divided into a morning and afternoon session, the first dealing with how to develop paraben-free preservative solutions, the second taking the form of a practical guild to sustainable packaging.

The most recent Sustainable Cosmetics Summit took place in New York in March, in which industry players called for ‘more authenticity' in the natural and organic cosmetics sector.
