Specialty chemicals player Univar expands into Baltic region

Univar has appointed a new head for its recently opened office in Lithuania in an effort to expand its footprint in the Baltic region.

Although the company is already present in the region, it will be expanding its business focusing on some additional industries.

"We are already doing business in the area, primarily in the Coatings, Food and Pharmaceutical industries," a spokesperson told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

However, Univar plans to expand from this base into a number of new business areas including personal care, which according to the spokesperson is one of the focus areas for the company.

“The Baltic region is very exciting with a lot of great opportunities for Univar,” said regional director for Nordic and Baltic region Ola Tengroth.

New sales manager Gintaras Sabonis will head up the new office and will be responsible for developing the company’s business in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

According to Tengroth, Gintaras’s experience in the region will help drive business.

“Gintaras’ solid background in the Baltic and pan-European chemicals industries makes him the right person to lead our business in the Baltics, and with him at the helm we will be equipped with the talent, network and expertise to achieve our goals in this budding region,” Tengroth said.

Market potential in the region

Univar is one of a number of suppliers to recognise the potential of the personal care chemicals market in the Baltic region.

DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products recently announced the expansion of the distribution of its Zemea product line throughout Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as well as Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Russia.

In these new markets, the petroleum glycols alternative will be supplied by IMCD Group, which is already responsible for distribution in leading markets throughout Western Europe.
