HCT develops eco-friendly replacement for eyeshadow packaging

Recycled and recyclable paperboard has replaced the plastic packaging of a number of make-up products from French cosmetics brand B Green.

The original packaging for its eye shadow and face powder products were manufactured in plastic by HCT Packaging, which was then commissioned to find a more eco-friendly replacement.

Recycled and recyclable board

HCT replaced the plastic with 100 hundred per cent recycled board which was then decorated with a paper wrap to fit with the rest of the brand.

“A lightweight and compact cardboard component was chosen which was then customised to reflect the client's brief,” explained project manager for HCT France Cecile Lajoinie.

In addition to being more sustainable, the cardboard also gives a lightweight finished product.

“The compact size and light weight of the finished product allows it to be easily transported in any make up bag,” Lajoinie explained.

An inner lid, also out of recycled board, was incorporated into the design to protect the product within, and a cardboard spiral tube was added to allow the product to close securely, a spokesperson for the company told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

Consumers are informed on the brand’s website that the packaging is 100 per cent recyclable.
