Titanium dioxide filter helps up UVA protection in sunscreen

Croda claims that a new titanium dioxide filter can help formulators answer the demands of European guidelines pushing for higher UVA protection.

In an attempt to respect new European guidelines, formulators are aiming for a UVA protection of a third of the SPF (the UVB protection).

This can be challenging, especially when trying to go for the higher sun protection factors.

CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com met with Julian Hewitt, Market Applications Specialist with Croda, at in-cosmetics 2010 to discuss Solaveil Spextra, the company’s new titanium dioxide filter.

The level of protection provided by the ingredient is dependent on the particle size, said Hewitt, who explained that the company had devised a new production method that allows for a higher control of particle sizes.
