HCT Packaging designs slim line lip gloss ideal for pockets

A slim rectangular lip gloss format designed by HCT Packaging has been chosen by colour cosmetics brand Hourglass for its Prodigy range.

The flat shape was designed to fit into trouser pockets as well as slipping into small clutch bags and purses, project manager for HCT USA West Coast, Kate Lin explained.

“We wanted something ladies could easily slip into their jean’s back pocket,” she said.

Ergonomic applicator

In addition, the lip gloss package does not have a wand, rather a plastic applicator nozzle to apply the product directly to the lips.

“Imagine, in a club, in the dark, it is much easier to uncap, squeeze and apply the gloss directly than having to aim the wand tip on your lips and risk smearing,” Lin said.

The applicator itself is a two layer plastic applicator and has been ergonomically designed.

“The shape is made to accommodate the shapes of our lips, hence the curve from a side-profile,” Lin told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

Furthermore the tottle (the transparent part of the packaging which is squeezed to eject the product) is made out of surlyn and is softer than the hard container traditionally used for lip glosses.

The design chosen by Hourglass is one of a family of seven slim pocket gloss containers offered by HCT Packaging.

It was then customised by HCT, which used tampo printing to add the Hourglass logo onto the tottle and vacuum metallising to colour the body of the material.
