Organic Monitor organises master class in eco-labelling

Organic Monitor is holding an event to tackle the complex issue of how to best label eco-friendly cosmetic and personal care products.

The Ethical Cosmetic Eco-Labels & Global Opportunities Masterclass will take place in Nuremberg, Germany and will entail a comprehensive two-day programme, from February 18 – 19.

The masterclass will take place alongside the Vivaness trade show at the city’s CongressCenter Ost, an event that aims to be one of the leading European expos for the natural personal care and wellness industry.

The masterclass itself forms part of the expo's conference programme and will comprise two interactive workshops aimed at technical and business professionals targeting the natural, organic and fairtrade/ethical categories

Part one tackles technical issues

The first part of the workshop, which will be led by Organic Monitor’s head of Technical Research, Judi Beerling, and begins with an orientation for the most popular labels for ethical cosmetics, describing the various fairtrade labelling schemes, together with specific fairtrade initiatives such as Nordic Swan and Eco Flower.

A more in-depth critical review will also be taken on each of these labelling initiatives, outlining ingredient, technical issues and specifics concerning formulation and how to overcome specific challenges involved with becoming certified.

Analysis will then be given on how these eco-labelling schemes compare and contrast with other leading natural and organic certification programmes that are generally better recognised by consumers.

Part two gives a global market overview

The second part of the workshop, which will be led by Amarjit Sahota, Organi Monitor’s director, analyses the global market for ethical cosmetics, highlighting core business opportunities, both for existing players and for new entrants to the category.

This will include an overview showcasing the existing leading players in the market place on a worldwide basis, as well as the major market developments and trends highlighted by case studies.

The second part of the workshop will by tied up with a presentation emphasising the key areas for business growth opportunities in this sector, as well as giving specific market projections for the category.

The masterclass will have a capacity of 50 delegates and reservations for places can be made through the company website.
