The recommendations have been introduced by French advertising standards agency, ARPP, and will go into force on March 1, 2010. As France's advertising industry is largely self regulating these are not legal requirements but rather protocol for the industry to follow.
They focus on a number of issues surrounding cosmetics advertising and marketing claims, including tightening up the definition for natural and organic products.
Likewise, a section of the new rules is also devoted to ‘free from’ claims, in line with the growing number of products that stress they do not contain specific ingredients on the labels.
Conference kicks off January 25
The conference will take place on January 25 at the MEDF headquarters, which is situated in the 7th arrondisement in Paris, and will feature participants from both ARPP and the DGCCRF, a government body that oversees fair play in the consumer sector.
The programme will last from 2.30pm to 5.30pm and will be chaired by the FEBEA president, Alain Grangé-Cabane.
Each presentation will then be followed by a question and response session, which will allow all participants to clarify any points or areas of the new regulation they are not sure of.
DGCCRF and ARRP head up speaker list
Speakers will include DGCCRF chief Phillipe Guilleran, who will explain the reasons why the new recommendations are being introduced, while Nicole Balmain of the Commission de Cosmetologie will speak about consumer opinion on advertising.
