Very much falling in line with last year’s theme, which focused on how to make the industry greener, this year’s show highlights an issue that is now topping both political and industry agendas worldwide.
The show will be held January 26 – 27 January at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, Paris, housing exhibition halls that will feature an estimated 1,200 participants from 30 countries, the PCD Awards and an extensive two day conference programme.
Conference programme highlights sustainable theme
Indeed, it will be the conference programme that will highlight the sustainable development theme, with every one of the three presentation topics clueing in on this subject.
According to a spokesperson from event organiser Oriex, it was the show participants that called for the focus on sustainability, as its increasing importance in the packaging arena means that information on the subject is a necessity.
Of the three conference presentation topics, the first two will be given on the Tuesday - Cosmetics and Sustainable Development in the morning, followed by Perfumes: Innovations, Dispensing Systems and Packaging Sustainability in the afternoon.
In the morning the cosmetics programme will look into themes such as the latest materials, environmental labelling, eco design and packaging reductions, while in the afternoon the perfume programme will look at subjects such as infinite glass, customised pumps, carbon footprints and flexible packaging.
Making make-up packaging more sustainable
On the Wednesday morning the conference programme will focus on colour cosmetics, with a topic entitled Make-up: Innovation & Sustainability.
This programme will look at packaging to maintain formulation sterility, avoiding waste during manufacturing, anodized aluminium, multi-sensory packaging and hot sampling.
The Wednesday afternoon will be devoted to the PCD Awards, which will honour achievements in both packaging innovation as well as formulation-packaging compatibility.
The criteria for the competition are that all entrants must have been launched on the European market between 1st December 2008 and 31st December 2009, with prizes awarded by a panel of judges comprising experts and journalists from the industry.
Last year big brand winners included Lancome, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Yves Rocher, Givenchy and Cartier.
Event should be the same size as last year
This year the exhibition itself is expected to be the same size as last year’s event, and Oriex says it is expecting the same number of visitors which will include executives from some of the biggest names in the business, including L’Oreal and Chanel.
Likewise, the exhibition floor will also include some of the biggest packaging suppliers in the business, including Amcor Flexibles, Rexam Personal Care, Ileos, Alcan Packaging Beauty and Eastman Chemical.
