Plasticum’s one-piece spray cap popular with leading aerosol players

An increasing number of customers in the aerosol industry are opting for Plasticum’s Oscar spray cap with Insertless Spray technology, according to the company.

The one-piece spray cap was developed by Plasticum in conjunction with some leading players in the aerosol industry who have already selected it for use in their products, according to the company.

Since its launch earlier this year, the polypropylene spray cap with a matt finish has been adopted for use in deodorants, anti-perspirants and hairspray.

Plasticum used its proprietary Insertless Spray technology to produce the component. The technology uses injection moulding to allow the insert and spray cap to be integrated into a single product

The company says that as no separate insert is required, the product consists of just one material which makes recycling of the spray cap easier.

To optimise control and performance when activating the aerosol, the spray orifice of the button is positioned just above the stem. Additionally, a special chamber and channel design stimulate the acceleration of particles into a swirling pattern.

Llona Vermeer, marketing manager of the Plasticum Group, told CosmeticsDesign that Oscar has proved to be particularly popular with UK customers. She explained that in the UK there is a big market for a one-piece product that is cost-effective and performs well.

However, she added that the performance of the one-piece spray cap is not quite as good as spray-caps that feature a separate insert, so in this respect, the product is marketed for use in middle-end products, rather than high-end.

Plasticum has previously used its Insertless Spray technology to produce Cooper, a spray cap with a different design that has a 35mm diameter. According to Vermeer, this product is targeted for use with smaller, handbag-sized aerosols.

With a diameter of 52mm, Oscar is designed for use with bigger aerosol cans, making it the perfect compliment to the smaller Cooper product.
