Julie Vergnion, Rexam product manager for the personal care division, said that above all the new material offers aesthetic qualities while combining ‘remarkable cost and manufacturing efficiencies'.
The enhanced clarity of the plastic means that it will be an ideal sampler packaging for fragrances, as it serves to enhance the liquid to its full potential.
Enhancing fragrance colour
“This allows customers to create fragrance colours perfectly in tune with the latest fashion trends,” said Vergnion.
The company says the new plastic will be available across the range of its sample packaging, including Sof ‘n’ Touch, Mini-Mist and Sofistic’s.
As well as offering a similar allure to the type of premium beauty product that is normally packaged in glass, while being a cheaper material, Rexam says that there are also cost advantages due to its lighter weight and durability.
Lower weight means less cost
Rexam points out that the lower weight means that the product is easier to handle and cheaper to transport, while it is less vulnerable to breakages because it is much tougher than glass.
“In fact, use of Crystal Transparency cuts development time, as compared with glass,” said Vergnion.
Likewise, Rexam says that it can offer further management and logistical efficiencies because it is able to offer both the pump and the bottle together, and also as a recyclable product if necessary.
“In terms of consumer appeal, and marketing and production attributes, we believe this to be an innovation in plastic bottle materials with true brand benefits,” Vergnion said.
