Natural Beauty Summit looks beyond organic

The third Natural Beauty Summit will be exploring sustainability, carbon footprints and green chemistry when it opens its doors in November.

ITEC, the organisers of the trade event Beyond Beauty, are behind the summit which will take place November 23, 24 and 25 in Paris.

On the agenda for this year’s summit is the evolution of the organic and natural industry, the next steps in terms of ingredient and product development as well as a discussion of the available certification systems.

Market developments

Market analyst from Kline, Hana Hrstkovà, will introduce the market research company’s new Sustainability Ratings and Green Scores.

The sustainability ratings have been developed by Kline’s Specialty Chemicals practice and takes into account a company’s carbon neutrality, ingredients sourcing, packaging, manufacturing processes and social responsibility.

The green consumer will also be examined as Sharon Green of RISC International will present the results of a study covering 10 countries that was started in 1992 looking at consumers expectations for natural products.

Formulators Ngub Nding from Ephyla and Pierre Perrier from Essential Cosmetics will focus in on the ingredients used in cosmetics.

Nding will present on whether organic and natural products can be as effective as the conventional counterparts, whereas Perrier will investigate the ‘dangerous’ claims that have dogged certain ingredients in recent years.

Green chemistry and manufacturing

Manufacturing processes, particularly green chemistry, will also come under the spotlight at the event, with Laurent Sousselier from Unitis (the French association of ingredients suppliers) presenting how and why it could revolutionise the sector.

The last day of the event (November 25) will take the form of a workshop led by sustainable development expert Olivier Dubigeon. Topics covered in the workshop include how to integrate a corporate social responsibility approach into a business and how to integrate eco responsibility throughout the life cycle of a product.
