Marinova launches seaweed extract for beauty supplements

Australian biotechnology company Marinova has launched Maritech Synergy, an organic-certified seaweed extract for beauty supplements.

Maritech Synergy is an extract of brown seaweed containing marine polyphenols and fucoidans that Marinova claims “delivers visible skin benefits from the inside”.

High antioxidant content

Extracted using a proprietary coldwater process, Maritech Synergy is high in antioxidants, offering more than double the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) activity of Vitamin C.

Marinova claims the antioxidant rich ingredient has “age-defying properties”.

In an in-vitro study, Marinova found that Maritech Synergy inhibits ageing-related enzymes such as collagenase and elastase. Marinova said the study even shows the ability of the ingredient to effectively stop the action of collagenase.

Marinova also conducted human clinical trials that illustrate the anti-inflammatory properties of the fucoidan in Maritech. Marinova said control of inflammation is important for skin health and plays a central role in ageing.

Processing and dosage

Maritech Synergy is organic, kosher and halal certified and is available as a water soluble powder. It is soluble in cold water at up to 5 per cent concentration at 25C and is thermally stable at processing temperatures of up to 60C and in the pH range of 3.5 to 6.0.

For oral applications, Marinova recommends that 100-1000 mg of Maritech Synergy be added at concentrations of up to 3 per cent in topical applications.

Marinova has a range of marine extracts suitable for personal care and cosmetic products. It is currently conducted tests on its skin lightening extract Maritech Bright and its anti-ageing product Reserve.
