Delfin launches skin testing equipment for colour cosmetics
The Finland-based company says its new SkinGlossMeter is a wireless instrument that has been developed to measure skin gloss and shine as a means of helping colour cosmetics companies develop more effective products, including make-up, lip-gloss and nail polish.
Skin gloss or shine can have a significant bearing on how make-up products take to the skin, as well as determing the appearance once applied.
Factoring in this consideration correctly during the development of these types of products helps to ensure coverage that is uniform and of high quality.
A direct measure of skin gloss
“Previously determining the shine or gloss of skin could only be done by measuring the levels of sebum on the surface, which is actually an indirect means of testing,” Aki Immonen, company sales director, told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.
“This is the first equipment dedicated to the cosmetics and personal care market that can make a direct test for skin shine.”
The company says it developed the equipment because testing of this kind was difficult and time-consuming, spurring it to incorporate ease of use, accuracy and reliability into the design.
Red laser beam technology
The instrument has been developed with a 635nm red laser beam to measure the specularly reflecting light from skin and nails, the company says.
It is also totally portable and rechargeable and can be used in conjunction with other testing equipment, including DelfWin data collection software, which allows for wireless data transfer to a computer.
The company, which markets its products in over 30 countries and six continents, is aiming to increase its footprint in the international market for skin measurement instruments.
The SkinGlossMeter was showcased and unveiled for the first time at last week’s in-cosmetics exhibition, in Munich, Germany.
