Colipa announces programme for Scientific Forum
Last week the organisation announced that its General Assembly will be held in Bled, Slovenia, from 27 – 29 May, backed up by this week's announcement of the full scientific programme.
This will include a total of nine presentations given by experts in a variety of fields all relating to scientific research - one of the key driving forces behind this fast moving industry.
European legislation and safety
The forum will commence at 9am with a morning session that will be dominated by presentations on safety and how it fits into European legislation.
The first of these presentations will be given by Panagiotis Daskaleros of the European Commission, who will expand on the new rules outlined for scientific committees.
The second presentation will concentrate on recently updated legislation for safety testing of products for skin irritation, eye irritation and genotoxicity, given by Julia Scheel, head of product safety at Henkel.
How legislation effects the industry
Following on from this will be a presentation by Gerald Renner, director of science and research at Colipa who will share his thoughts on the Recast of the European Cosmetics Legislation and what effect this has had on the industry.
Rounding off the topic of legislation will be a presentation by Odile de Silva, head of research and development at L’Oreal, who will discuss the part Colipa will play in the recasting of the European cosmetics legislation.
The afternoon presentations will include two on the subject of nanotechnology – one given by Geoffrey Hunt, of St Mary’s University College, UK, on the subject of complexity theory and nanotechnology; while the other presentation will be on the subject of particle size and characterization of nanostructured TiO2.
Moving on to the area of ingredients to round up the forum, a presentation on the safety evaluation of cyclic methyl siloxanes will be given by a representative from the European Center of Silicones, while Evelyn Coelis, Colipa’s Issues Manager will round up the presentations with a general discourse about ingredient safety.
