Evonik launches thickening agent at in-cosmetics
The Antil Soft SC (INCI names Sorbitan Sesquicaprylate) is a biodegradable thickening agent based on natural raw materials.
According to the company, it can thicken rinse off formulations, reduce moisture loss in skin after surfactant use and improve the creaminess of foams.
Suitable for PEG-free formulations
In addition, it is suitable to use as a foam booster in PEG-free formulations.
PEG (polyethylenglycol) is used as a surfactant or emulsifier but many of the more natural formulations avoid using it, explained Uta Kortemeier, technical service manager for hair care and body cleansing at Evonik.
The ingredient is cold processable and easy to handle, the company claims. Evonik suggest the ingredient be used at concentration 0.5 to 1.5 per cent, and claims it is effective at the low concentrations that would be needed for clear formulations.
Evonik is releasing the ingredient in time for the in-cosmetics trade show next week where it will be showcasing a number of its recent releases.
Peptide range
Earlier in the year, the Germany-based company formally known as Degussa Personal Care released the first of a new range of peptide ingredients developed in conjunction with US company Helix Biomedix.
Tego Pep 4-17 is a tetrapeptide that activates collagen production, stimulating the dermal filling, repair and renewal mechanism of the skin, according to the Germany-based company.
Suitable for anti-ageing formulations, the inclusion of Tego Pep 4-17 will lead to increased elasticity and improve the appearance of fine lines, Evonik claims.
Two new silicone-based agents will also be presented at the show: the oil in water emulsifier ABIL care XL 80 and the silicone conditioning agent for hair and body applications ABIL T Quat 60.
