Alcan develops new printing technology for cosmetic tubes
Standing out from the crowd is crucial on beauty shelves already lined with tubes, pots and jars all designed to catch the eye of the passerby.
Attracting attention
Investing in new packaging innovations is one way that manufacturers can attract and fix the wandering eye of the consumer.
To provide the visual stimulation to seduce the fickle consumer, Alcan Packaging Beauty has developed Pixel Graphics.
Alcan claims the new technology is ideal for ultra-lifelike photo reproduction, opacity and innovative effects such as metallic, mat or gloss effects.
As well as offering a wide palette of design possibilities, Pixel Graphics also undresses the conventional tube.
Environmental credentials
By submitting to direct printing, the tube has no need to resort to additional layers and labels to draw the consumer to the till. Because it does away with the outer label, Alcan claims that Pixel Graphics breaks into to environmentally-friendly ground.
It can find suitable partners in plastic (Ø 22- Ø 50) and laminate (Ø 35, Ø 40, Ø 50) tubes.
Alcan Packaging Beauty is one of the dominant players on the cosmetics and fragrance packaging market with a turnover of $932m in 2008.
The cosmetics packaging business is particularly active in tubes and has recently courted the green consumer with the release of a plastic tube made with recycled materials.
Made from up to 60 percent post-consumer regrind (PCR), Alcan says the tube has the same visual and technical qualities as its other tubes.
