France-based active ingredients provider Soliance is aiming at the still growing market for skin whitening products with its latest launch.

Whitesphere Premium is described as a potent lightening complex that targets the reduction of age spots, one of the associated signs of skin ageing often in the over 50s age group.

The company says it is readying to give the new formula its public debut at the In-Cosmetics show, which will open its doors in Munich, 21 – 23 April.

Incorporating microencapsulation technology

The complex has been developing using a combination of ingredients known for their skin lightening and anti-ageing properties, and has been optimised with the incorporation of its microencapulation technology, Spherulite.

The incorporation of this technology allows the active ingredients contained in the complex to be delivered directly to the target skin cell responsible for skin darkening and age spots, melanocyte.

These cells are located in the bottom layer of the skin’s epidermis and produce melanin, which leads to skin colouration.

Targeting melanin production

Excessive levels of melanin, invariably caused by UV exposure and photoageing, which can lead to sun and ‘liver’ spots in mature skin.

Soliance claims that an independent in vivo study showed that the complex helped to forge a visible reduction in age spots and an improvement in skin tone in the space of eight weeks.

Skin whitening continues to be an important part of the anti-ageing category, and while it has proved to be a very popular trend in Asia, it is also sill gaining an increasing number of users in Europe, where it has become popular with ethnic minorities.

Tapping into this trend, a number of leading ingredients players have also launched skin whitening products lately, including Cognis, Fenchem, Copalis, many of which incorporate natural ingredients.

Soliance will be giving demonstrations of its Whitesphere Premium complex at stand C800, during the In-Cosmetics event at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre.
